UIA statistics rank congress city Vienna in 3rd place world-wide
11.06.2010
The Union of International Associations (UIA) has just published its international congress statistics for 2009. Vienna ranks third, and has therefore moved up one slot compared to 2008.

With a total of 287 events rated by the UIA as international congresses, Vienna ranks behind Singapore (618) and Brussels (388), ousting Paris (246) into 4th place. The top ten venues also include Geneva (181), Prague (161) and Stockholm (146), as well as Berlin, Tokyo and London. The country ranking is headed, as always, by the USA, followed by Singapore and France. In 2009 Austria was able to improve its ranking from 11th to 8th place.

Christian Mutschlechner, director of the Vienna Tourist Board´s Vienna Convention Bureau and president of the Austrian Convention Bureau, commented on this result: "After achieving first place in the International Congress and Convention Association’s listing, this is further confirmation of Vienna´s standing as a top global player in the international congress business, and for Austria this leap up the rankings is a tremendous motivation to continue our intensive involvement in this sector.”
